I now have a fair education of SMTP protocols and how ME is supposed to work. Completely rebuilt the 2008 R2 server, reloaded ME twice and we still are unable to send mail to other accounts and when persons outside attempt to send mail to us through the ME server it gets bounced back. Spent hours on forums between Mozilla and MailEnable. Well.we have gone over the User Manual with a fine tooth comb. Sydney NSW, Australia (Exetel) 1.Īuckland, New Zealand (Xtra) 1. It appears this message is being generated by the ME server and sent back to the Thunderbird client. ![]() Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again. The server may be incorrectly configured. This morning I am receiving a different error message:Īn error occurred sending mail: SMTP server is unknown. "An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: * OK IMAP4rev1 server ready at 02/05/13 22:13:58." However, this is the message I am now receiving from Thunderbird or the ME Server (not sure which): RCPT TO: Requested mail action okay, completed MAIL FROM: Requested mail action okay, completed I re-performed the telnet test with the following results:Ģ20 ESMTP MailEnable Service, Version: 0-6.78- ready at 02/05/13Ģ50 Requested mail action okay, completed I doubled checked the port settings within the Thunderbird client and made sure the IMAP Port settings were set to Default to Port 143. ![]() Restarted the ME server and performed the telnet test again.still failed.Oh, just so I didn't think I was totally off my rocker, I did re-check the router to confirm that the ME server was set to allow IMAP/SMTP/POP and Web server through the router firewall. Completely shut down the MS Firewall and redid the telnet test but it failed again. I ran the test using the MailEnable test tool at: with the following results for the domain name in question. 2) The router is not blocking the mail server port for the IP allocated to the ME server nor the DNS name. 1) Edited Thunderbird to connect to the ME server using the IP address rather than the DNS name to bypass DNS issues. ![]() Went through the checklist in the article. Our router is set to specifically add a pinhole for the ME mail server through. Our upstream provider does not block anything as we manage our own firewall through the onsite router. What next? I read the article "ME020075 - TRB: Troubleshooting mail client connectivity to MailEnable" but we are the ISP and have authority over our own DNS and manage our own DNS servers. Other email accounts set up within Thunderbird using Google Mail do not have this issue.
